Global investment bank
Merrill Lynch (Asia Pacific) Ltd. made a HK$2 million investment
in "Project Aspire" in February 2004, to provide a
kick-start to fund-raising activity in HKIEd. "Project
Aspire" aims to assist children with Asperger Syndrome
in Tai Po and neighbouring districts who are studying in Kindergarten
3 or Primary 1. Asperger Syndrome is a relatively widespread
but rather unfamiliar affliction in Hong Kong. It affects the
development of adaptation skills in learning and social interaction
and may easily be misdiagnosed as autism. The project will be
housed in the Institute's Tai Po campus facilities, making use
of resident expertise and drawing on the advice of external
experts as necessary. Student-teachers at the Institute will
gain first hand experience of working with Asperger Syndrome
children as volunteers of the Project. |
Mrs Angela W Y Cheung, JP, Member of the Fund-raising Committee
of HKIEd Council, and Professor Paul Morris, President, receive
the cheque for HK$2 million from Mr Albert Lee, Managing Director,
Regional Business Executive, Global Private Client of Merrill
Lynch (Asia Pacific) Ltd.
