[30 Oct] Online Seminar: Conducting and Disseminating Mixed Methods Research
On October 30, 2024, the Graduate School organized an online seminar, “Conducting and Disseminating Mixed Methods Research,” led by Professor Guofang Li, a Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Transnational/Global Perspectives of Language and Literacy Education of Children and Youth at the University of British Columbia, Canada. There were over 160 staff and postgraduate students joining in the seminar.
As a globally recognized researcher, Professor Li offers a wealth of expertise in research on bilingualism and biliteracy development, Chinese heritage language education, and technology-enhanced language teaching. The distinguished speaker guided participants through her research journey, highlighting the transition from conducting qualitative research to implementing longitudinal mixed methods designs.
During the Q&A session with Professor Li, the participants opened up about the challenges they are facing while conducting own research. They brought various issues, including coding in interview data analysis, study classifications, and optimal timeframe of mixed methods studies. Having provided her guidance on those matters, Professor Li also offered valuable advice on analyzing open-ended responses and practical strategies for gathering qualitative data and collaborating with early researchers.
