The Graduate School (GS) organised an ecotour to Yim Tin Tsai, Sai Kung, on 10 December 2024. The tour focused on local history, culture, and ecological systems while visiting various sites in the Hakka village.
Internationally renowned Hong Kong newspaper Ming Pao明報 showcased its printing facilities, editorial capabilities, and extensive archives during a visit by postgraduate students from the Education University of Hong Kong on December 4, 2024. Arranged by the Graduate School and Ming Pao, the visit emphasised the importance of the media in a fast-changing world. Learning more about the industry piqued the students’ interest in media work.
Current and former postgraduate students from the Education University of Hong Kong were honoured for publishing success on December 3, 2024. EdD Programme Coordinator Dr Lucas Kohnke congratulated students meeting the requirements of the Postgraduate Students Publication Awards Scheme (PSPAS). The scheme is designed to reward Research Postgraduate, Doctor of Education, and Master of Education students who publish in respected journals.
Professor Zhu Hua, the Professor of Language Learning and Intercultural Communication and Director of the International Centre for Intercultural Studies at the Institute of Education, University College London, demonstrated how Chinese social media platforms and Chinese digital culture, in a broader sense, offer new avenues for expressing opposition and conflict, with the potential to either unite or divide networked groups in a Graduate School seminar on November 28, 2024.
Professor John O’Regan presented a compelling argument about English as a Global Language in a Graduate School seminar on November 26, 2024. He is the Professor of Critical Applied Linguistics at the Institute of Education, Faculty of Education and Society, University College London. The seminar showcased the findings from Professor O’Regan's book published in 2021. The findings focus on the evolution of perspectives over the last 30 years regarding superdiversity, English as a Lingua Franca (ELF), translanguaging, world Englishes, and translingualism.
The Graduate School (GS) of the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), at Tai Po campus, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the College of Foreign Languages and Literature and the School of Philosophy of Fudan University (FDU) respectively on 21 November 2024.
On November 15, 2024, the Graduate School hosted its third online information seminar about the EdUHK’s PhD program and the existing funding opportunities, such as the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) and the EdUHK Research Postgraduate Studentship. 20 registrants from Cambodia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Italy, Kazakhstan, Mainland China, Myanmar, Pakistan, Philippines, and Russia took part in the seminar.
On November 12, 2024, the Graduate School held its second online information seminar about the PhD program offered by EdUHK and the available scholarship opportunities, including the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) and the EdUHK Research Postgraduate Studentship. A total of 22 registrants from Cambodia, Hong Kong, India, Kazakhstan, Mainland China, Morocco, Myanmar, Philippines, and Russia tuned in to the event.
On November 9, 2024, the Graduate School hosted an informative Alumni Sharing session titled “The Making of a Scholar: Practical Tips for Doctoral Students and Early Career Success.” Approximately 40 doctoral students attended the event led by EdD alumni Dr Maxwell Ho, Assistant Professor in the Department of Education Policy and Leadership and Associate Co-Director of the Academy for Educational Development and Innovation and Research Fellow at the Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change at EdUHK.
