The individual thesis writing consultation services are now available for students of Research Postgraduate and Doctor of Education programmes as well as MEd students who are doing research projects.

The consultation service aims to provide one-to-one meetings to students who are willing to make a strong commitment to work with an academic writing consultant and improve their academic writing. The consultant will help participants articulate their ideas and identify areas of improvement. Students are welcome to make an appointment via gradsch@eduhk.hk at least five working days before the date of consultation.

Appointments

• To maximise the effectiveness of the consultation, participants are required to submit the followings when making an appointment:
  • A chapter of the thesis/research project (with supervisors’ comments); and
  • Completed academic writing consultation form (with guiding questions).
• Participants are strongly recommended to check the grammar of the above documents using writing enhancement software such as Grammarly (https://www.grammarly.com) before submitting them.
• The consultations will be conducted via Zoom or face-to-face. Students who will submit their thesis/research project soon are encouraged to make appointments for the consultations.
• Appointments can be made on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, Fridays from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm (except public holidays). Some Saturday afternoons and some evenings could be arranged subject to the availability of the consultant. Each consultation session is for a maximum of 1 hour.

Cancellation Policy

• Participants have to cancel their appointments at least 48 hours in advance so that we can allocate their appointment session to another student.
• If participants fail to turn up more than twice without cancelling the appointments in advance or cancel more than two scheduled appointments, we reserve the right to restrict their access to the consultation service.
