My research interests center on the mechanisms with which a first or second language is learned and cognitive linguistics. I am particularly interested in the cognitive aspects of language acquisition and use. These include how statistical distributions of linguistic features in the input alter the development of morphemes and syntactic constructions, and how construal affects language acquisition and use, and vice versa. I mostly work on English, Japanese, and Cantonese, but I also welcome the opportunities to explore linguistic phenomena in other modern languages that will shed light on to our understanding of the nature of language.
My publications appear in international peer-reviewed journals including Language Learning, Studies in Language, IRAL, Glossa, and Frontiers in Psychology. I am also the author a few book chapters, which appear in books published by major academic publishers such as Springer, John Benjamins, De Gruyter, and Routledge. I have also acted as Reviewer for a number of journals such as Language Learning, First Language, and Journal of Child Language.
