This database was officially launched in 2020 by Dr. Shin Kataoka of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies, The Education University of Hong Kong, and project members Lili Ou, Chinglaam Tang, and Kapo Chow. The purpose of the project was to study Cantonese Bible and Christian literature compiled and translated by Western missionaries in Hong Kong and China during the late Qing and early Republican period of China.
After collecting some 150 Cantonese Bibles and 50 types of Christian literature, we have created this database to make some of the materials accessible to a wider audience.
