Ms Chan Ming-wai, Year 4 student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in 2023/24
One of the most exciting things about studying in the Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language (BA[TCSL]) programme is the Field Experience (FE) at Beijing Language and Culture University (BLCU). During the four-week FE last summer, we taught different levels of Chinese learners, aged 20 to 60, including students, journalists, and even country leaders! This FE allowed me to gain practical teaching experience and helped enhance my teaching skills through teaching practice. As a result, I achieved excellent grades. Meanwhile, we participated in the Cultural Festival held by BLCU. We explored different cultures and met people from across the world, which was a very unforgettable experience.
I am truly thankful for the opportunity to study at FHM, which provides a good learning environment for us. When we were freshmen, there were team-building activities that helped us get to know more about our classmates, followed by the FE in Beijing. During the FE, there were various visits apart from lectures. For example, we visited the Lao She Tea House, climbed the Great Wall, and had a tea party, which broadened our horizons. To ensure quality, the Programme Leader collected our feedback in the middle of the internship, and reflected it to the teacher in charge at BLCU. All of these initiatives created a wonderful experience in our learning journey.
