Mr Lin Zekang, Year 3 Student from Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (Chinese Major) in 2023/24
As a student who studies at the Faculty of Humanities at The Education University of Hong Kong, I have diverse learning experiences and received a comprehensive humanities education. The Faculty provides extensive learning opportunities, which nurture our growth and cross-cultural communication competencies.
The Faculty is committed to promoting the development of humanities disciplines. They organised a series of public lectures on Chinese history for two consecutive years, which were open to both students and the general public. These lectures allowed us to engage in cutting-edge academic research and gain interdisciplinary knowledge in humanities. I also had the opportunity to participate in an exhibition project called ‘Tai Po Literary Trail: Hong Kong Literature in Tai Po’, which promoted the literary culture of Tai Po. It deepened my understanding of Tai Po’s local history and literature.
Furthermore, the Faculty provides all-encompassing support for non-local students like me to help us adapt to the new learning and living environment. The University offers Cantonese language courses to help improve our Cantonese proficiency and better integrate into the local community. These support measures have provided us with better communication skills, which in turn promote cross-cultural understanding and friendship. The Faculty also dedicates itself to providing career support, helping students plan future career development. Meanwhile, the University maintains close ties with industry partners, offering an array of internships and employment opportunities for students. I have participated in career guidance courses and workshops, which enhance my employability and equip me for my future career.
Since joining the Faculty, I have benefited from multifaceted learning experiences and a versatile humanities education. The University has provided a myriad of disciplinary choices and support for non-local students, which help me succeed in academic and personal development while preparing me for future career endeavours.
