To foster high-impact research, the Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE) at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) has recently renewed Academic Collaboration and Exchange Agreements with three esteemed institutions. In June 2023, CRCLE extended its partnership with the Centre for Chinese Linguistics (CCL) of Peking University, followed by a renewal with the Research Institute of International Chinese Language Education (RIICLE) of Beijing Language and Culture University, and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL), both in September 2023. These agreements, valid for three years, aim to synergise the research strengths of the CRCLE and the three centres in the areas of Chinese linguistics and the teaching and learning of Chinese as a first and second language.
The collaboration encompasses exchange of visiting scholars, organisation of joint international academic conferences, joint research grant applications, co-supervision of postgraduate students, and sharing of research infrastructure. With the agreements signed, notable figures such as Prof Chen Baoya, CCL Director; Prof Jiang Liping, RIICLE Deputy Director; Prof Zheng Yanqun, RIICLE; and Dr Foo Suan Fong, SCCL Executive Director paid visits to CRCLE in October and November 2023. During their visits, Prof Chen and Prof Zheng, both visiting scholars sponsored by the Tin Ka Ping Education Fund, gave four research talks on language contact and international Chinese language education to students and staff at EdUHK. Additionally, they met with EdUHK researchers for academic consultations. As part of the exchange programme, Dr Lam Sin-manw and Dr Ding Hongdi from the CRCLE conducted research visits to the SCCL in July 2023 and the CCL in December 2023, respectively.
Since its establishment in 2019, the CRCLE has maintained close ties with these three external partners, thanks to the support of the Department of Chinese Language Studies. The cooperation was formalised through Memorandums of Understanding in 2019. Over the course of three years, the stipulations outlined in the agreements have been diligently implemented and further strengthened through the active efforts of all parties involved.
