The Symposium on Language and Literacy Development in Chinese Children with Special Needs was jointly organised by Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML), Department of Special Education and Counselling (SEC) and Centre for Research on Linguistics and Language Studies (CRLLS) on 23 September 2022.
As a reflection of the project “Toward a Research Cluster in Clinical Linguistics” which aims to create synergy from cross-disciplinary collaborations, the symposium brought together nine scholars from different disciplinary trainings, such as linguistics, psychology, special education and speech-language pathology to report on their research work.
The presenters were divided into two groups depending on their presentation topics: the Language Development group was formed by Prof Cheung Hin Tat (EdUHK), Dr Lin Shanju (Chung Shan Medical University), Dr Su Yi (Central South University), Dr Yeh Li-Li (MacKay Medical College); the Literacy development group comprised Dr Liu Duo (EdUHK), Dr Tong Xiuhong (EdUHK), Dr Wang Li-Chih (National Tsinghua University), Dr Yang Xiujie (Beijing Normal University), Dr Zhao Jing (Capital Normal University). At the end of the symposium, a panel discussion spurred heated interdisciplinary conversations.
The talks were delivered online to over 150 audiences from Hong Kong, Mainland, and Taiwan. The participants contributed their insights in the Q&A sessions.
The project “Toward a Research Cluster in Clinical Linguistics” is funded by Research Development Office (RDO), The Education University of Hong Kong.
