The Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML) and the Centre for Language in Education (CLE) co-hosted the Language Fun Day on 17 November 2022 at the Central Plaza, EdUHK, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Faculty of Humanities (FHM). This event was also an occasion to promote language learning, multilingualism and multiculturalism, which are the missions of LML and CLE.
This two-hour event was filled with joy and excitement, with a live singing performance by Judas Law (羅凱鈴), a stand-up comedy by Vivek Mahbubani, and an original musical by EdUHK students who won CLE’s talent show recently.
In the welcoming speech addressed by Professor John Erni, Dean of FHM, he pointed out that languages are fun to learn because they all have their unique characteristics. He also emphasised the benefits of studying foreign languages.
The first performance was an original musical by the group “Dummy, Bundan and Sozai”, with Ma Tsz Ying, Gianna and Wang Yazan, Kassia, who were the champion of the Talent Show 2022-23 organised by CLE in October 2022. The show, combined with acting and singing, depicted the daily lives of EdUHK students.
The musical was followed by Judas Law’s busking performance. Judas is a famous Hong Kong singer. She performed five songs in different languages on stage to fit with the event’s theme. Everyone enjoyed her voice and songs.
After the singing performance, there was a language game on the song lyrics. The various International Tutors from Japan, France, and Morocco came to the stage to demonstrate their native languages.
The last show was a stand-up comedy performed by Vivek Mahbubani. The comedy was related to his funny experiences as a bilingual in Hong Kong.
