To promote the research on Chinese Language education and academic exchange between Singapore and Hong Kong, the Centre for Research on Chinese Language and Education (CRCLE) of The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) and the Singapore Centre for Chinese Language (SCCL) have co-organised a virtual joint seminar on 3 March 2022 (Thursday). The joint seminar was hosted by Dr Lin Jinzhan from SCCL, and the two keynote speakers were Dr Fan Jinghua from SCCL and Dr Liao Xian from EdUHK. Dr Fan gave a lecture titled “From Chinese Language Oral Proficiency Diagnosis to Targeted Teaching of Oral Chinese”. He gave an introduction on how to conduct diagnostic analysis on second language learners’ oral proficiency, and how to implement appropriate teaching to improve students’ speaking proficiency in Chinese. Dr Liao shared his study titled “The Role of Executive Function in Chinese Language Learning: Starting From Its Influence on the Pupils’ Word Recognition”. He discussed the role of executive function in learning the Chinese language, and shared some empirical research findings of the relationship between executive function and the Hong Kong pupils’ Chinese word recognition.
There were 95 scholars and teachers from several institutions in Hong Kong and Singapore attending this joint seminar. As the second seminar jointly organised by EdUHK and SCCL, it has successfully drawn much attention from the Ministry of Education of Singapore. The two parties will continue to co-host another seminar in the second half of 2022.
