Learning Under the “New Normal”: Sharing from a BA(Lang Studies) Student

Mr Wong Yu Hon, Year 1 Student of the BA(Lang Studies) in 2021/22
Learning is never an easy process, especially during a pandemic. Students have neither attended face-to-face lessons nor seen their classmates, let alone wandered around the campus and participated in school activities. Unlike in previous years, learning on campus has become a remote wish for us. Also, learning online not only diverts our attention but also deprives the opportunities to communicate with others. Although we are getting used to online learning, the limitations and boundaries can never be neglected.
Even though learning during the pandemic has been difficult, teachers and admin staff members from EdUHK have put much effort into supporting us. For example, teachers have arranged blended learning so that we can have a taste of learning on campus; departments have unremittingly reminded us of important issues and deadlines via email; the IT staff members have also provided much support to students and teachers whenever necessary. Despite the limitations during the pandemic, teachers and staff at school have maintained their professionalism. With their support, we were able to attend some face-to-face lessons in the first term. We enjoyed learning while satisfying the school learning requirements. We could also adapt to the new environment quickly.
The future is still uncertain, and the learning environment can always be changing. We can equip ourselves with the appropriate attitude and knowledge to face the obstacles in the future. Be understanding and thankful to those who have been helping us regardless of the rapid changes; avoid grumbling about the changes but accept the challenges faced in the future; and be humble and passionate about learning while cherishing the opportunities to explore in these four years of study.
When you hoist the sails to cross the sea, you will ride the wind and cleave the waves.
