Dr Lucy Yu is awarded the “Excellent FE Supervisor” and “Caring Teacher Commendation”

Dr Lucy Yu Baohua has just received the award for the “FE Supervision Appreciation Scheme - Award for Excellent FE Supervision” in Semester I of 2021/22. This is a scheme to acknowledge the contribution of FE supervisors to the students’ teaching practices and develop a good FE ePortfolio for reflective learning. In addition, Dr Yu has recently received the “Award of Caring Teacher Commendation 2021/22” from the Faculty of Humanities, an award to recognize academic and teaching staff with exemplary teaching performance and demonstration of commitment to nurturing positive life and moral education among students.
Dr Yu has been devoted to enhancing learning motivation and development of students' linguistic and digital literacy through the use of innovative multimodal approaches, such as digital storytelling, as evidenced in her Quality Education Fund (QEF) project titled “Enhancing student’s English proficiency, academic achievement, critical thinking and English learning motivation through digital and traditional storytelling” and the Knowledge Transfer (KT) project titled “Student-developed digital video projects as a way to promote students’ autonomy and digital literacy skills”.

Programme Information Hub Launched to Promote the New BA(ESDC) Programme
On 14 April 2022, FHM launched its first one-stop programme information hub for the new programme, Bachelor of Arts (Hons) in English Studies and Digital Communication, BA(ESDC), to attract public interest in the programme, showcase its strengths, communicate with potential applicants, and answer frequently asked questions. The website features useful information, such as a virtual campus tour, admission information, scholarship details, FAQs, and 4-minute taster class videos on the topics of “Using PRAAT to change the gender of your voice” by Dr Albert Lee Kwing Lok and “Building a chatbot using Amazon Lex” by Dr Lau Chaak Ming.

Annual Gathering to Expand the Network of Chinese Teaching and Research with Local Schools
To strengthen curriculum development and expand the network of teaching and research with local primary and secondary schools, the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) has launched the “Learning and Teaching Mentorship Scheme” in 2020/21. In the project’s first phase, 37 principals, head teachers, and senior language education experts from local and international schools have been invited to serve as advisors. By 2021/22, the number of advisors was expanded to 48, and an annual gathering of advisors was held on 11 February 2022.
