Mr Artem Zadorozhnyy (Archie) has recently been awarded the prestigious RGC Postdoctoral Fellowship Scheme (PDFS), a prestigious 3-year award that is set to support promising doctoral graduates to be integrated into academia.
Artem is a graduating fourth-year PhD student at the Department of English Language Education (ELE) who received the competitive Hong Kong PhD Fellowship. His principal supervisor is Dr Lucy Yu Baohua, Assistant Professor from ELE. During the last four years, Artem has developed his research interests around students’ engagement in informal, self-directed, out-of-class language learning activities with digital resources.
Dr Yu’s recent research interests include the impact of digital presentations in enhancing learning motivation and favourable academic and linguistic outcomes and the development of students' linguistic and digital literacy through the use of innovative multimodal approaches, such as digital storytelling. Artem is very thankful for being involved in Dr Yu’s Quality Education Fund (QEF) project titled “Enhancing student’s English proficiency, academic achievement, critical thinking and English learning motivation through digital and traditional storytelling” and the Knowledge Transfer (KT) project titled “Student-developed digital video projects as a way to promote students’ autonomy and digital literacy skills”. These experiences have not only expanded his research interests, but also led to a co-authored paper with his supervisor in ReCALL, a top-tier academic journal.
