During the second half year of 2021, RCCLLC sorganised a series of Hong Kong Literary Culture Salons. On 7 September, “Against the Wind: Running an Independent Bookstore in Hong Kong”, hosted by Dr Yip Cheuk Wai, presented guest speakers Mr Pong Yao Ming and Miss Wong Tin Mei who shared their experiences of managing a book store under the different environment. On 30 October, “Reading Discourses on Chinese Lyrical Tradition and Literary Historiography” hosted by Professor Wong Nim Yan of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), presented the author Professor Leonard Chan Kwok Kou of the National Tsinghua University of Taiwan who shared his insight on the Lyrical Tradition in the history of Chinese literature. In the salon on 4 December, “Trans-regional Flow: Taiwanese Writers and Hong Kong”, with Dr Emily Chau Tsz Yan of The Hang Seng University of Hong Kong as the host, Dr Yip Ka Wing of CUHK and Dr Huang Kuan Hsiang of The Education University of Hong Kong presented the writings about Hong Kong by Taiwanese writers. In addition, the “International Symposium on Hong Kong Language and Literary Culture: Japan and Hong Kong” was successfully held on 21 May. For leaving a record of this academic activity, symposium booklets have been produced in Chinese, English, and Japanese language, which are currently downloadable from the homepage of RCCLLC.

The Education University of Hong Kong: Online Classes Platform Project: Online Seminar on Chinese Teaching and Learning in Secondary Schools
Two sharing sessions were conducted for “The Education University of Hong Kong: Online Classes Platform Project” by two partner secondary schools – Ying Wa College and Methodist College via Zoom on 9 July 2021. They presented their experiences on making good use of online resources to enhance Chinese writing classes and their practical tips on executing effective Learning and Teaching for Chinese subject under the new normal.

Writing Competition@The Education University of Hong Kong Promotes Respect for Teachers
“The Second Greater Bay Area ‘Respect for Teachers’ Life Education Writing Competition” successfully concluded with an online award ceremony and a sharing session held by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 20 August 2021 with more than 150 schools and families participated. It had received 8,029 contributions from students in 363 primary schools in Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and Zhuhai.

Saturday Seminar Series (Cohorts 1 and 2)
In the fall of 2021, the Department of English Language Education arranged 10 Saturday Seminars conducted in the hybrid mode with over 500 in-service teachers in attendance. The first five offered practical ideas and strategies for “English Language Teaching in the Digital Era”. The aim was to support practising English language teachers’ professional development by introducing current and emerging digital pedagogical practices. The second series of seminars focused on enhancing student learning through assignments involving a wide range of literary and creative genres. It was designed to help practising teachers strengthen their instructional skills and knowledge in the English Language Education Key Learning Area.
