History Education Video Competition Launched to Share Good Practices of Online Teaching

The Department of Literature and Cultural Studies (LCS) launched the History Education Video Competition in March 2021. Current students of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (History), Bachelor of Education (Honours) (Chinese History), and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (Secondary)-History at The Education University of Hong Kong were invited to submit either a micro-teaching video, or a creative learning video to participate in the competition. Participants could choose to submit a 5-10 minutes video on any topic in History or Chinese History, but the topic should be suitable for secondary school students.
The competition received many well-designed videos by the submission deadline on 28 May 2021. The videos were judged based on the following criteria: content knowledge, lesson design, e-pedagogy/implementation, presentation/visual appeal, practicality/usability, and creativity/innovation. After deliberate consideration, the selection panel determined the winners of two Grand Prizes, one First Prize, three Second Prizes, and three Third Prizes. The results were announced on 17 August 2021 on the LCS website.
Each winner received an Amazon coupon as well as a certificate in recognition of the outstanding entry. In addition, the winning videos will be uploaded onto the EdUHK Online Classes Platform (EOCP) for public access.
A second round of the competition has begun on 17 November 2021, with a submission deadline on 15 April 2022. Students who major in history education are encouraged to join the competition to share good practices of online teaching with both pre-service and in-service History/Chinese History teachers. The Education University of Hong Kong: Online Classes Platform Project: Online Seminar on Chinese Teaching and Learning in Secondary Schools
Two sharing sessions were conducted for “The Education University of Hong Kong: Online Classes Platform Project” by two partner secondary schools – Ying Wa College and Methodist College via Zoom on 9 July 2021. They presented their experiences on making good use of online resources to enhance Chinese writing classes and their practical tips on executing effective Learning and Teaching for Chinese subject under the new normal.

Writing Competition@The Education University of Hong Kong Promotes Respect for Teachers
“The Second Greater Bay Area ‘Respect for Teachers’ Life Education Writing Competition” successfully concluded with an online award ceremony and a sharing session held by The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) on 20 August 2021 with more than 150 schools and families participated. It had received 8,029 contributions from students in 363 primary schools in Hong Kong, Macau, Shenzhen and Zhuhai.

Saturday Seminar Series (Cohorts 1 and 2)
In the fall of 2021, the Department of English Language Education arranged 10 Saturday Seminars conducted in the hybrid mode with over 500 in-service teachers in attendance. The first five offered practical ideas and strategies for “English Language Teaching in the Digital Era”. The aim was to support practising English language teachers’ professional development by introducing current and emerging digital pedagogical practices. The second series of seminars focused on enhancing student learning through assignments involving a wide range of literary and creative genres. It was designed to help practising teachers strengthen their instructional skills and knowledge in the English Language Education Key Learning Area.
