Mr Vincent Wong, Graduate of BEd(HIST) (2020)
Hello everyone, I am Vincent Wong. As one of the first batch of graduates of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (History) programme at The Education University of Hong Kong, I am happy and lucky to be invited by the University to share my working experience after graduation.
After graduation, I became an Associate Teacher (AT) of a secondary school on Hong Kong Island. I taught Junior History and Life and Society. Besides teaching subjects, the duties of an AT also include different kinds of supporting work, such as preparing teaching materials, organising school activities, and conducting substitute lessons. I believe the working experience is treasurable which helps me get more familiar with school routines.
As my first full-time position after graduation, I would feel stressful at work. Compared with the teaching practices during the undergraduate studies, full-time working is more challenging. Although we have received basic educational training at the University, there is still a lot to learn at the workplace. As the saying goes, “Teaching and learning go hand in hand”, I realise that I have discovered many new things while teaching. Sometimes, I would be inspired by my students. Like students, I believe teachers should always improve themselves. In this way, I can become a professional teacher.
In the future, I hope that I can continue learning throughout my education journey, and become a professional teacher who benefits students’ growth.
