Dr Angel Ma Qing from the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies received the President’s Award for Outstanding Performance in Teaching 2020/21. Dr Ma is an English teacher trainer who tried her best to help her students become the best English teachers that they can be. Her teaching philosophy focuses on creating interactive and technology-enhanced learning environments to help students become independent learners. Dr Ma established an innovative approach - corpus-based language pedagogy (CBLP), and disseminated it to 600 students and 1,000 English teachers from 300 universities/schools in Hong Kong, mainland China and internationally in the past four years.
Apart from helping student teachers develop CBLP, Dr Ma strived to disseminate CBLP to the broader professional English teacher community outside The Education University of Hong Kong. She has conducted/organised 35 workshops for student teachers and English teachers in Hong Kong and beyond. Her CBLP reached beyond the Greater Bay Area to over 16 countries (Australia, Germany, India, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Mexico, New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Russia, The United Kingdom, The United States and Vietnam).
