Dr Andy Chin Chi On’s CanPro Won a Silver Medal in the Geneva’s Invention Expo

Dr Andy Chin Chi On, Head and Associate Professor of the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies, and an external partner, Mr Ng Chun Yick won a silver medal in the Geneva’s Inventions Expo held in March 2021. The winning product is a language mobile app called “CanPro”, which is an interactive listening exercise for practising Cantonese. It consists of 100 common Cantonese expressions extracted from a digitised Cantonese language database with a size of 800,000 characters. With CanPro, learners of Cantonese can practise their Cantonese pronunciation skills through the high frequency Cantonese expressions so as to gain more confidence in using Cantonese and also to integrate themselves better into the Cantonese speaking community.
