The Department of Literature and Cultural Studies (LCS) and Bachelor of Education (Honours) (History) co-oganised a History Education Talk Series for students of Bachelor of Education (Honours) (History) and Postgraduate Diploma in Education (PGDE) (Secondary) – History from January to April 2020. Topics of the talk series include history teaching and learning in secondary schools, the newly revised junior history curriculum as well as job-hunting guide for history teachers-to-be. The talk series have attracted about 90 participants in total.
The first and second talks were held in January 2020. Ms Agnes Chow Kam Lin, the History Panel Head of Our Lady of Rosary College and Mr Keith Woo Chun Kit, Senior Curriculum Development Officer, Education Bureau and his team were invited as speakers to share their experiences on how to help teens to grow through history education. They also introduced how history teaching in secondary schools could be improved under the newly revised curriculum. The third talk was delivered via ZOOM in live on 6 April 2020 in view of the development of the epidemic situation. In the talk, Mr James Yu Cheuk Pong, the History Panel Head of Rosary Hill Secondary School, who is also a graduate of The Education University of Hong Kong’s PGDE programme, shared his experiences and advice on application for a history teacher in secondary schools with the students.

Students Participate in Developing Materials for Chinese Storytelling
In the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, Dr Fanny Li Yuen Mei has headed a project to develop Chinese storytelling and writing. Other participants include her colleague Dr Fung Chi Wang of the same department, and other participants from Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU) and The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). It sought to develop five courses taught at the three universities: three writing courses of different kinds at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), two creative writing courses at HKBU, and a religious studies course at PolyU. The distinctive feature of the project is the “Student Network Group”.
