Yang Shuojun, Year 4 Student of BEd(HIST) (2019/20)
As a student of the Bachelor of Education (Honours) (History), I have been given different training and opportunities to foster a global mindset especially through understanding the diverse social and cultural contexts of History. Apart from focusing on my major study, I took part in the University’s overseas exchange programme in Semester II of 2018/19.
The exchange programme really helped broaden my horizon, and I did benefit a lot from it. In the University of Vic - Central University of Catalonia in Spain, I took courses that were not available here at The Education University of Hong Kong. I learnt some useful information technology skills like using different software to produce videos. Other than the course work, wonderful things also happened outside the campus. During the exchange period, I travelled around Europe, visited many historical relics which I just saw on the internet before; I made friends not only with my schoolmates but also with people from different professions such as a retired Polish army officer and a German historian. The highlight of this exchange experience was that I managed to meet my idol in the history field – Dr Torsten Diedrich. We spent more than two hours discussing history issues, which I consider very encouraging and valuable.
