The Department of English Language Education (ELE) Learning Group on e-Learning held a lunchtime seminar titled “Introduction to Google Classroom for Course tutors and Field Experience (FE) supervisors” on 29 August 2019. ELE has formed learning interest groups as a way to develop the department’s strengths and disseminate that knowledge back to the wider community through seminars. As a way to share this knowledge, a member of the Learning Group on e-Learning, Mr Sterling Wu, held the seminar introducing the use of Google Classroom as a means to manage and provide support to students on FE and in regular courses. The event was well received and attended.

Ten Years Along the Road of Literature, Our Literary Minds Reside in Belles-lettres
Dr Yip Cheuk Wai was appointed as the Director of the Research Centre for Chinese Literature and Literary Culture (RCCLLC) in the second half of 2019. The Centre organised the 3rd Undergraduate Academic Conference on 28 June 2019 and the 3rd NTU-CUHK-EdUHK Graduate Student Conference on Taiwan and Hong Kong Literature and Culture (with Hong Kong Literature and Culture Research Workshop) on 8 and 9 July, in order to provide a platform for students from different majors and places. Except the 9th Hong Kong Literary Culture Salon: Literature and Society held on 19 October and the 36th Reading Club for Chinese Classics: On the Success and Failure of the Form of Ci (詞) in the Republican Era: With Focus on Ceng Jinke and Lu Qian held on 4 November, the Centre had a Gojira Screening Event on 26 September and 8 October and Tashi Dawa's "A Soul in Bondage" on 6 November as its first two events for the new Joy of Reading Series. The Centre has also published its 10th Anniversary booklets, and organised the Hong Kong Literature Exhibition in January 2020 at the National Museum of Taiwan Literature as to share the joys of Literature to the public. RCCLLC will continue to uphold on its humanistic values for the coming brighter future.

The Department of Literature and Cultural Studies (LCS) held an open forum on 18 September 2019 titled "On the Spirit and Quintessence of the Classics", which attracted about 60 students and staff members as participants.

Academic Visit to Beijing Universities
A delegation from the Department of Chinese Language Studies (CHL) paid a visit to Peking University, Beijing Normal University and the People’s Education Press from 17 to 18 October 2019, exploring issues on reciprocal visits for scholars, co-organisation of international conferences and research collaborations.
