The cultural event “Exploring Dynamic Korea 2019”, held on 11 October 2019 by the Department of Linguistics and Modern Language Studies (LML), attracted more than 100 staff and students.
The event was held as an introduction to Korea to enhance students’ understanding of the main features of the Korean language and culture. Not only did the participants learn vocabulary and expressions that are relevant to the Korean food (Yakgwa, Korean traditional cookies) and drink (Sikhye, a traditional Korean sweet rice drink) that they tasted, but also gain insights into the Korean writing system through bookmark making and pronouncing their own names in Korean.
To learn more about Korea and its language, undergraduates can enrol in LIN1018 Korean I and LIN1033 Korean II. More new courses about the Korean language and culture will be offered by LML in the coming year. Watch out for them!
