Guan Jinglin June, Graduate of BA(Lang Studies)-Chinese Major (2019)
In June 2019, I finished my four-year Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Language Studies (BA[Lang Studies]) at The Education University of Hong Kong after submitting my final essay. As a graduate, looking back over the past four years, the days of studying BA(Lang Studies) have given me many challenges and reflections, as well as a little sweetness, to achieve the milestones.
Academically, through the study of the three domains of language, literature and culture in the programme, I have a more profound and deep understanding of Chinese and English. I constructed my own concept and knowledge system to apply, analyse or evaluate texts in academia or life. With further self-engagement, I have found my future research interest from the study of Chinese Etymology in Year 2. Now I am working towards becoming a professional researcher of ancient Chinese characters.
In addition to my academic focus, I participated in the student exchange and internship programme provided by the Global Affairs Office and BA(Lang Studies). In a foreign country or in the workplace, I felt a certain culture shock from different aspects, which enabled me to understand how to respect different cultures, interact with friends and colleagues with diverse backgrounds, and cooperate with others as a responsible team member.
Although my university life is over, my study is continuous. The BA(Lang Studies) helps me lay a solid foundation for further studies. As a lifelong learner, continuous absorption, creation and reflection of study will make my life more exciting and meaningful.
