Hong Kong in Its History of Lyricism, written by Professor Leonard Chan, Chair Professor of Chinese Literature in the Department of Literature and Cultural Studies and the Director of the Research Centre of Chinese Literature and Literary Culture of the Faculty of Humanities, won the Tenth Hong Kong Book Prize organised by the Culture and Education Unit of the Radio Television Hong Kong and the Hong Kong Publishing Federation.  Launched in 2007, the Hong Kong Book Prize aims to promote quality reading and to recognise outstanding Chinese publishing books. The awarded book was also selected as one of the Top 10 Books (non-fiction) of 2016 by Yazhou Zhoukan before.

Professor Leonard Chan has lectured widely in Czech, the USA, Canada, Japan, Taiwan and Mainland China. Besides literary works, he is also the Chief Editor of the 12-volume Compendium of Hong Kong Literature 1919-1949. In Hong Kong in Its History of Lyricism, by using a literature perspective, Professor Chan reviews Hong Kong’s history and discovers her unique landscape: while there is close tie of cultural inheritance with Mainland China, Hong Kong is also deeply shaped by the western society, nurturing rich and diverse literatures which are worthy of our admiration and preservation.
