Why Write a
Links Postcard?
1. It will make you stand out.
Sure, it’s nice to receive email from colleagues, but is it really that
exciting? Most of the time, such notes are about work or are one of those
dreadful chain emails of jokes forwarded from one person to other. Will
it make you smile inside to be reading email? Will you save the email and
treasure it? No, you probably won’t. However, if you send a postcard to
someone, you’ll suddenly make yourself appear different, more thoughtful,
and more interesting, especially if your postcard contains something that
provokes a thought, a smile, a conversation, or even change.
2. Postcards and Sunday Newspapers.
Even though we live in an age when everything we want to know is just
a Google search away, sometimes we don’t take the time to really enjoy
new bits of information. Printed newspapers are still very much in demand
because people like to sit down on Sunday morning with a cup of coffee and
read interesting titbits to each other. Interesting news is thought-provoking,
if sometimes unimportant information that is fun to share with a friend. The
card might be pinned up on the wall of the staff room for others to think
about.
3. It won’t get erased or deleted.
When you send an email, you run two risks. One is that it will be read
and then deleted by the person you sent it to. The other is that it will be
completely forgotten by the end of the day. With a postcard, the recipient
is much less likely to simply throw it away as quickly (although it may
languish in a drawer for years to come). A good idea worth thinking about
is also worth keeping.
