Student Tour to Beijing to Learn about Climate Change
A group of BSocSc(GES) and BEd(GEOG) students visited Tsinghua University between 5th to 11th December 2018. The theme of this study tour is the comparison and analysis of Beijing-Hong Kong climate change strategy and policy under the Strategic Background of Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area. By attending a few lectures and site visits, the tour allows students to understand the core issues of climate change and the strategy to combat climate change taken by different stakeholders in China.
Professor Wang Can from Tsinghua University introduced the dynamics of climate change to our students. His lectures covered various disciplines such as urban geography, environmental management and environmental economics, and explained the scientific basis and strategy for combating climate change. Besides, Professor Wang Ke from Renmin University of China gave a lecture on long-term low carbon strategy of China, and how much effort China has put on improving energy efficiency and decarbonization. Mr. Chen from SinoCarbon explained the national carbon market and students visited the company. Students are inspired to pay more attention to this field in the future, which doesn’t exist in Hong Kong.
