PhD candidate Herbary Zhang was awarded the Ernst Mach Grant - Worldwide
Herbary Zhang, our final year Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme awardee, has recently been awarded the prestigious Ernst Mach Grant - Worldwide by the Austrian Federal Ministry of Education, Science and Research. This Fall, Herbary will be in the University of Salzburg conducting his research on gender and migration.
Currently under the supervision of Dr Isabella Ng, Herbary studied the single-mothers’ intersectional stigma and social exclusion in Thailand. His research has been making substantial impact already in Thailand as he has been awarded two research fellowships by both Mahidol University and Chulalongkorn University, the No. 1 and No. 2 universities in Thailand during his fieldwork.
The Ernst Mach Grant - Worldwide is a remarkably competitive research grant for young researchers from around the world. Only a few students from the University of Hong Kong and the Chinese University of Hong Kong were awarded the Ernst Mach Eurasia-Pacific Uninet Grant before. Herbary’s achievement has proven the exceptional caliber of our department’s research students as well as academic staff.
