Social Studies
INTRODUCTION
The Social Studies minor integrates social theories with the practices of social research in order to expose students to multiple perspectives, enable them to understand the interrelationship between theories and practices, and equip them with practical skills for conducting social research. In spatial dimension, it leads students to apply the theories and research methods to in-depth studies of various issues related to the local, the national and the global levels. In temporal dimension, it guides students to explore how the past has shaped the present and future developments in different contexts.
After completing this minor, students should be able to:
- Understand some major social theories and social research methods;
- Integrate and apply the theories and research methods to the study of the issues and problems at different temporal and spatial dimensions;
- Grasp and revisit the key concepts and theories through in-depth case studies;
- Appreciate the diversity of thoughts, cultures and perspectives.
