Law and Society
INTRODUCTION
This Minor comprises a cluster of social science subjects each focusing on various dimensions of law in theory and practice. It aims at exposing students to multiple disciplinary perspectives, such as political science and sociology, and to their interactions with law. Its spatial dimensions inform students of the discourse and practice of laws and legal regimes in local, regional and global contexts. Its temporal dimension guides students to reflect upon the manners in which the past has helped shape the present multidisciplinary understandings of law and their implications for future. Students who wish to develop their careers in the public, private and legal sectors will find this Minor useful and indispensable.
After completing this minor, participants should be able to:
- Explain the major legal discourse and controversies in contemporary Hong Kong, China and global societies;
- Integrate and apply the theories and research methods in the study of law-related issues from different temporal and spatial dimensions;
- Articulate the key concepts and theories thereof through in-depth case studies;
- Appreciate and practice diversity of thoughts, cultures and perspectives.
