Dr Weiqiang Tan, Associate Professor of The Department of Social Sciences, delivered a speech on Financial Literacy and Rural Financial Education Programs for Farmers in The Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Bay Area (also known as Greater Bay Area) at the Forum 2022 China-ASEAN Education Cooperation Week. The Forum was held on 24 August 2022 in Guiyang, China, synchronously broadcast by the video conference.
The Forum, themed on Education Empowering Rural Revitalization: Promoting Research and Practice on School-Local Farming Cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, explored how colleges and universities could play a role in rural revitalization.
Dr. Tan and his Project Team investigated on the financial literacy among the residents who lived in the rural areas of nine cities in Guangdong Province within the Greater Bay Area. Retrieved from the results of nearly 800 valid questionnaires, the Team recognised the demands for financial education of the rural residents in the nine cities and proposed the customised solutions to boost their financial literacy. The Project was launched by The Education University of Hong Kong in collaboration with Guangzhou University.
Funded by The Education University of Hong Kong, the Project promotes the research on financial literacy enhancement among both the rural residents living in nine Guangdong cities and the low-income individuals in Hong Kong, with the aim of accelerating the rural revitalisation and poverty alleviation.
