To further enhance our role as a leading university in the Asia–Pacific region and beyond, the University has been actively expanding its global outreach and embracing the expertise and experience of stakeholders to support its advancement. This includes our plan to admit a significant number of non-local students and contribute to the educational transformation in Belt-and-Road countries. In recent years, the University has also amplified its expansion of strategic collaborations with institutions in Kazakhstan, The United Arab Emirates, etc. With its strengthened presence in the GBA and accelerated international academic and research collaborations, the University plays a pivotal role in connecting Mainland China and the West and promoting Hong Kong SAR’s unique position as the “Global Educational Exchange/ Global Dialogue Centre”, thus contributing to the development of Hong Kong SAR into a regional education hub. Furthermore, the University has been progressively enhancing its global presence by entering selected subjects in international rankings.
Increase in Non-local Student Intakes to Foster Global Diversity and Excellence
Echoing the government’s policy to increase the non-local student quota from 20% to 40% beyond the UGC funded quotas and in pursuit of global diversity and excellence, the University is implementing a robust plan to significantly increase the number of non-local students, especially from Belt-and-Road countries. This strategic initiative encompasses targeted recruitment efforts, enhanced international partnerships and the development of tailored support programmes to ensure the seamless integration and success of non-local students within our vibrant academic community. By embracing a more international outlook, the University aims to create a dynamic and culturally enriched learning environment that prepares students to thrive in an interconnected world.
Strengthening Connections and Empowering Communities
As part of our ongoing pursuit of sustained growth and excellence, we highly value relationships with stakeholders and harness their networks to bolster institutional advancement. This includes a proactive approach to alumni and donor engagement to seek resources for the development of the University. We collaborate closely with schools to empower them to serve the needs of students and collegially shape the development of education in Hong Kong SAR. Furthermore, we recognise the significance of community engagement and promote such engagement at University level by encouraging all staff and students to contribute to the development and well-being of the local community.
Effective engagement with the wider community can greatly benefit EdUHK, including by enhancing its reputation. By aligning our curricula with community issues and priorities, we enhance our students’ learning outcomes by ensuring their learning is relevant and impactful. Additionally, offering more opportunities for student experiential learning and internships will keep our students and the University up to date with evolving societal needs. Engaging with the community can also lead to improved research productivity as partnerships open up new research opportunities. Through these concerted efforts, we foster meaningful connections, empower our communities and drive excellence in all aspects of the University’s activities. In conclusion, our dedication to strengthening connections with stakeholders is not merely a strategic initiative; it is vital for the holistic development of the University and its community. By collaborating with a range of stakeholders with different areas of expertise, we further the University’s mission by maintaining its position at the vanguard of education innovation, echoing the direction of Education Futures.
