An outstanding university embraces change while staying true to its mission. In today’s dynamic educational landscape, universities play a critical role in shaping the future of education. At The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK), we recognise the importance of adapting to local, national and global priorities while preserving our core commitment to educational excellence. Our new Strategic Plan for 2025-2031, themed “Education Futures”, reflects this approach. It charts a clear path to ensure EdUHK remains a leader in educational development, talent cultivation, societal and technological advancement, in Hong Kong SAR, China and beyond.
Leadership in education requires vision, innovation, and a commitment to quality and impact. Building on our previous “Education-plus” approach, EdUHK has expanded its influence beyond traditional education by introducing forward-looking programmes in areas such as Artificial Intelligence, emerging educational technologies, and heritage education. These initiatives, coupled with our recent achievements such as 12th place in the QS World University Rankings for “Education and Training” in 2025 and 212th place in the QS Asia University Rankings, demonstrate our excellence in teaching, research, and facilities. As we move forward, our university administration is guided by strategic priorities that focus on nurturing future-ready educators and professional talents, advancing impactful research, contributing to sustainability, and fostering international engagement.
At the heart of our Strategic Plan lies a forward-thinking vision for education that prioritises innovation, sustainability, and collaboration. It is structured around four key areas: “Nurturing Future-ready Educators and Talents with Positive Values and Skills for Tomorrow”, “Achieving a Tangible Impact and Benefiting the World through Breakthroughs in Research and Knowledge Sharing and Transfer”, “Contributing to Sustainable Development”, and “University Advancement via Internationalisation and Wider Engagement with Stakeholders”. By integrating multidisciplinary learning into our curriculum, we are preparing students for the challenges and opportunities of a digital world. At the same time, we are enhancing research capacity through strategic clusters and advanced facilities, while setting ambitious sustainability targets, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption. Through partnerships in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and Mainland China, EdUHK is strengthening its role as a regional and global leader in education.
The recently released 2024-2035 Master Plan for Building China into a Leading Country in Education highlights the need to establish a mechanism for coordinating and promoting the integration of education, technology, and talent by leveraging education's support for science and technology. EdUHK will draw on the Master Plan and other international development trends to foster the synergistic development of nurturing talent, attracting talent, and advancing science and technology, contributing to the high-quality development of Hong Kong and the country, as well as to the establishment of a leading country in education.
Progress is driven by the collective efforts of a dedicated community. As we embark on this strategic journey, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to our Council, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and external partners for their unwavering support and contributions. Let us move forward with purpose and determination to enhance EdUHK’s impact on the world.
