The Joseph Lau Luen Hung Charitable Trust Asia Pacific Centre for Leadership and Change (APCLC) at The Education University of Hong Kong is committed to advancing the field of educational leadership through cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and innovative leadership development programs. In this endeavor, the APCLC strives to be the priority partner for top-tier universities, renowned researchers, educational organizations and practitioners in the region and across the globe. The missions of the Centre are:
  • Bridging – to build bridges between regional and international leadership understandings in order to create cross-culturally valid knowledge with global relevance;
  • Spreading – to disseminate indigenous leadership knowledge through research reports, professional development programmes and personal leadership stories, making our insights accessible to a global audience;
  • Bonding – to form and sustain reciprocal relationships with regional researchers and school practitioners, enhancing their ownership of the APCLC network and promoting collaborative growth. 

The Centre's R&D agenda focuses on:
  • Identifying indigenous characteristics of successful leadership across different cultural and geographical contexts;
  • Fostering research and development on leadership for innovation and entrepreneurship;
  • Exploring the link between leadership and well-being (self, students, teachers, and other stakeholders);
  • Understanding and describing inclusive and culturally responsive leadership practices in various contexts; and
  • Developing knowledge-based and technology-oriented tools that increase the effectiveness of leadership preparation and development.

Analytics\Assessment Research Centre
 
Analytics\Assessment Research Centre (ARC) is a university-level research centre dedicated to analysing data to cultivate wisdom. Our problem-solving publication circles foster connections among researchers, especially junior ones, and help them win grants. We build infrastructure for automated statistical analysis, and use a multidisciplinary approach to analyze Big Data. Our research is shared widely around the world, and we work to build strong research networks. 
 
Under the governance of Prof CHIU Ming-ming (Director), Prof LO Sing-kai (Co-Director), Dr Joyce KWAN Lok-yin (Associate Director), and Dr Angel LEUNG Nga-man (Assistant Director), ARC thrives with the support of 19 senior fellows with diverse expertise. During 2021-2025, ARC has conducted over 74 funded/awarded research and development (R&D) programmes. Recent grants include (in alphabetical order):
  • Detecting COVID-19 Fake News on Social Media across Four Languages: Followers, Emotions, Relationships, and Uncertainty
  • Global competence and Online Social Networks: Identities, Cognitive skills, and Sociocultural Factors as Facilitators and Barriers to using Diversity as a Strength
  • Online Social Network Influence on Policy Effectiveness & Educational Equity: School Marketing, Educational Outsourcing
  • Social Media Analytics Research Teams (SMART)
ARC collaborates with partners across 11 regions and countries, including mainland China, Singapore, Japan, South Korea, Nepal, Poland, the UK, the USA, Australia, Cyprus, and Greece. Our research has involved over 440,000 students, 2,500 teachers, and 5,000 other stakeholders such as language therapists and immigrant families, across 20 regions/countries. Through these efforts, ARC provides important insights that help improve educational research, practices, and policies.
