Call for Nomination
Teaching Award Scheme 2023/2024
Teaching Award Scheme aims to give recognition to faculty members who are committed to teaching. The award will be in the form of individual or group awards, and are conferred at the Faculty level. The award consists of a certificate and a monetary award of HK$25,000 to be used by the awardee solely for educational activities. Awardees’ names will be permanently displayed at the main entrance of the EdUHK Library.
Eligibility:
Full-time academic/teaching staff with a minimum of 2 years of teaching experience in the university at the time of nomination
Deadline of Nomination for 2023/24:
16 February 2024 (Friday)

Faculty Teaching Awardees
Dr CHOY Yat Ling Elaine
Faculty Teaching Award
Dr Choy utilises a forward-thinking SMILE teaching philosophy framework that integrates societal needs, mental well-being, innovative methods, life-long learning, and experiential explorations. As a Principal Investigator and Co-investigator on various projects, she drives educational advancement through individual and collaborative innovation. Her enthusiasm for incorporating animation into teaching, along with partnerships with local schools and the EDB, has significantly impacted over 10,000 students and 300 frontline teachers, enhancing their educational experiences and professional development.
Mr SY Wai Nok
Certificate of Merit
Mr Sy is a dedicated teacher highly recognised by students for his innovative approach and enthusiasm. He consistently inspires students to enhance their creativity in academic writing. Mr Sy plays a crucial role in FHM’s initiative on the Pedagogy of Care. He has served as the Principal Investigator for the project “Into the Picture Book Landscape: Facilitating the Pedagogy of Reading and Writing”, and has contributed as a Co-Investigator for another TDG project focused on supporting students’ holistic learning.
Dr CHEUNG Hiu Yan Alice

Dr Cheung has an inspiring teaching philosophy: “Students are Achievers”. She shows great enthusiasm in her teaching and has taught a variety of courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. She has been extensively engaged in curriculum development, especially in General Education. Dr Cheung keeps developing her expertise in blended learning and e-learning, implementing new pedagogies through adopting innovative approaches. She has also utilised several e-learning teaching resources in her class to facilitate discussions, such as Polling, Padlet, VR tour, and Edpuzzle.
Dr ZHOU Lulu

Dr Zhou is a dedicated and caring teacher who is willing to offer timely support and pastoral care to her students. She is good at adopting innovative teaching methods and technologies to cater for students’ different learning needs. Her excellent teaching performance is evidenced by her consistently high SET scores over the years.
In terms of knowledge transfer, Dr Zhou developed various videos under her teaching development projects (“E-learning Package 2021” and “Understanding Media and Popular Culture through Online Self-made Mini Videos 2019-20”). The large number of views recorded for these videos served as a great indicator of her success. Currently, Dr Zhou is the Programme Leader of the MACSLE programme, deeply involving in the curriculum development of the programme.
Dr WONG Leung Wo
Faculty Teaching Award
Dr Wong is an experienced and all-round educator in Chinese modern literature and creative writing. His SET scores have been consistently one of the highest among the peers. Apart from teaching, Dr Wong has been actively participating in various Chinese language education development projects and publications. He was the founder of the literary club “Xin Chuan” in 1998. Over the years, the club has nurtured many talented young writers and literature educators, and produced many prize-winners in local writing competitions. Dr Wong’s devotion and achievements are highly appreciated.
Dr KANG Jong Hyuk David
Faculty Teaching Award
Dr Kang is a historian of Modern Hong Kong and China who has an inspiring and innovative teaching philosophy “openness” - open format, open experience and open stage. He is an affectionate and caring teacher who can always motivate students with different academic backgrounds to study history inside and outside the classroom. To cater for students’ diversified needs, Dr Kang adopts different teaching strategies, such as using “4-re” teaching methods (reconstruct, reread, reflect and research), and evidence-based approach to develop students’ critical thinking in history and pop-culture area. Besides, Dr Kang is committed to pursuing quality teaching and pedagogical innovative teaching. His exemplary performance is evidenced by his excellent SET scores and positive feedbacks from his students and colleagues.
Dr CLAPP Jeffrey Michael
Certificate of Merit
Dr Clapp is a specialist in the area of Literature in English. With his belief that a teacher should cultivate students’ interest to learn rather than offer them knowledge in a conventional way, Dr Clapp has been developing the use of digital platforms and social media technologies to motivate students’ learning incentive. His high SET scores have proven his teaching strategies very effective in helping students to achieve learning outcomes. Currently, Dr Clapp serves as the Associate Head of Department of Literature and Cultural Studies, and the Associate Programme Leader of BEd(EL) programme who has been deeply involved in the revamp of Literature component of its curriculum.
