“Wecycle III” is the extension of the project “Wecycle Change Series”, which has been running by Cheer Lutheran Centre, Hong Kong Lutheran Social Service since 2014. The three-year training programme was designed specifically for individuals who were drug abusers or receiving drug rehabilitation treatment. After receiving a series of docent and volunteer trainings, participants were able to become bike tour guides or volunteers that could share their personal rehabilitation experiences and promote a healthy, drug-free lifestyle to others. Results reveal the positive impact of cycling on the rehabilitation and suggest the effectiveness of sports therapy on drug abusers.
- To enhance drug independence in drug abusers who are receiving treatments through sports
- To strengthen the occupational skills in drug abusers who are receiving treatments
- To improve public’s understanding of drug treatment services and provide preventive education
- To contribute and to achieve social cohesion by providing volunteering services
