Elite Athlete Career Development Internship Programme
In 2018, The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) made a pledge to be an "Elite Athlete Friendly University" to foster the development of dual career pathways for elite athletes. EdUHK has exceled in providing substantial support for the athletes’ all-round development. Elite Athlete Career Development Internship Programme is one of the main areas for the support, which can diversify the athletes’ career opportunities beyond sports coaching.
To stretch the potential of those athlete-students through practical training, Department of Health and Physical Education is inviting various NGOs and relevant industries to develop close collaboration with the University by being the “Elite Athlete Friendly Organizations” (EAFOs).
YMCA of Hong Kong has offered an internship opportunity in ‘Youth Advocator Scheme’ to Yuen Sin Ying, a badminton athlete from Master of Social Sciences in Sports Coaching and Management and the graduate of Bachelor of Health Education (Honors) programme. She has learnt a lot and acquired experiential learning in real-life workplace from May to July 2021 for exploring her interest in career development.

Sharing from Yuen Sin Ying
‘I have been training full time for almost 10 years, after my graduation in secondary school. I did not have any working experiences, I am thankful to the YMCA of Hong Kong by giving this opportunity for me to learn more other than training.
I have learnt different skills in YMCA of Hong Kong. I have worked in the Aquatics Unit, my supervisor and staffs are very nice and willing to teach me. I can learn administrative tasks, the daily operation and event management in the YMCA of Hong Kong. I can experience lots of new things, for example class management for the swimming courses, modifying the leaflet, preparing application forms of courses and events etc. It was fun and I enjoyed a lot while working with them.’
