Speakers

Professor Connie SUNG is a Consultant to The Education University of Hong Kong. She co-founded the MSU Center for Services, Training and Research for Independence and Desired Employment (STRIDE). Prof Sung's research focuses on the role of biopsychosocial factors and community-based interventions in improving individuals with disabilities in transition, career development, and psychosocial adjustment. She has authored over 90 publications in disability and rehabilitation and received multiple American Rehabilitation Counseling Association research awards. As a key investigator, Prof Sung has secured over USD $20 million in research funding from state and federal agencies, leading/co-leading multiple projects, emphasizing a holistic, strengths-based approach, and developing community-based interventions for improving the quality of life and career development of individuals with disabilities. This involves interdisciplinary, interagency, and international collaborations, extending to countries like China, Ireland, the UK, Slovakia, Ghana, Botswana, and Mali. Her commitment to disability and inclusion worldwide is underscored by her invited presentations at the United Nations General Assembly's Science Summit.

Abstract

Navigating graduate study can be a transformative yet demanding experience, requiring a balance of academic rigor and personal resilience. This presentation delves into practical strategies for planning, surviving, and thriving throughout the graduate journey. Drawing from her unique experiences of growing up and pursuing graduate studies at universities in both Hong Kong and the United States, Prof Sung will offer invaluable insights from a cross-cultural perspective. During the seminar, she will discuss critical topics such as effective time management, sustaining work-life harmony, cultivating a robust academic and professional support network, and fostering the resilience in the face of academic pressures. Attendees will be equipped with various practical strategies to enhance their graduate journey, empowering them to not only meet academic demands but also seize opportunities for both professional development and personal fulfillment. This session is especially beneficial for current and prospective graduate students seeking to maximize their success and navigate the complexities of higher education with confidence and purpose.
