HKIEd and the University of Macau (represented by its Rector, Professor Iu Vai-pan) entered an agreement for academic collaboration on 1 June 2005.
With a streamlined academic structure, our students now enjoy help and support from a single Programme Office.

Streamlining the Academic Structure

In line with its self-accrediting status, the Institute phased in a radically new academic structure in September 2005. The move enables the Institute to operate in a more streamlined fashion. Reducing the layers of line management and reporting levels, the new structure will help to enhance efficiencies and effectiveness in programme planning and quality assurance, thus enabling the Institute to better meet the needs of both the school sector and the wider community. More importantly, students will now enjoy support from a single Programme Office. Other key features of the new structure include:

The three Vice President positions have been reduced to two, one for academic and the other for administrative matters.
Two Associate Vice Presidents that are functional positions taken up by two senior academic staff, have been created, to assist Vice President (Academic) to take charge of Learning Enhancement & Development and Curriculum & Quality Assurance.
Two Faculties, the Faculty of Professional and Early Childhood Education and the Faculty of Languages, Arts and Sciences, have been created to replace the original four Schools.
A centralised Field Experience Office has been set up to oversee teaching practices for all students.
The existing 12 academic departments have been streamlined into eight to foster greater integration and collaboration.
