- HKEJ Monthly reported that the subject of Liberal Studies has been blamed for causing the civil unrest in Hong Kong, saying that subject had been politicised as a tool to brainwash teenagers in Hong Kong. However, Professor Stephen Chiu Wingkai, Chair Professor at the Department of Social Sciences, said the series of surveys he had conducted in collaboration with other institutions found that the subject aims to foster social awareness, independent thinking, and positive values, and was not the factor prompting young people to take to the street.
- Meanwhile, Mr Tai Hay Lap, Special Adviser to the President, described the subject as a good recipe to resolve social disputes, and the government should ramp up efforts to improve the subject instead of cancelling it by calling it a failure.
