EdUHK teams shine in the Inaugural Inter-University Public Policy Case Competition
A team of undergraduate students from the Bachelor of Social Science in Greater China Studies of the Department of Asian and Policy Studies (APS) won the Second Runner-up in the first Inter-University Public Policy Case Competition held in The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) in April 2019. More than 40 teams from all universities in Hong Kong participated in this high-profile competition. In the competition, participants were required to analyse and provide policy solutions to real-life public policy issues in Hong Kong. Consisting of Pui Gi SZETO, Shiqian ZHANG, Ho Yau TONG, Janice TANG, and Wai Lam NGAI, Team Esplendor stood out from three rounds of fierce competition and was awarded the second runner-up in the final round, only second to a team from the Faculty of Law of the University of Hong Kong, and another team from the Division of Social Sciences of HKUST. The judge panel was chaired by Professor Anthony Cheung, former Secretary for Transport and Housing of Hong Kong SAR Government, and comprised of former senior officials from the Legislative Council and the Policy Innovation and Coordination Office of the SAR Government, as well as academics from local universities. As the coach of the award-winning team, Mr Sam CHOI, Lecturer of APS, provided intensive training and academic mentorship throughout the entire course of competition, starting from March. Formed by students of the Master of Public Policy and Governance Programme, another team from the APS—the LAN team also stood out from nearly 50 teams and entered the semi-final round.
