Research on Dog-assisted Speech Therapy

Students of the Department of Special Education and Counselling at The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) engage in research-based learning, which includes research method design, research questino formulation, data analysis and problem solving. Students learn to interpret research results and relate the findings to theories. This exposure develops students' ability to think and respond to problems.

The video captures the research-based learning experience of two students taking the Master of Science in Educational Speech-Language Pathology and Learning Disabilities programme at The Education University of Hong Kong. They conducted a research study at Caritas Mother Teresa School to explore the effectiveness of using therapy dogs as treatment partners in speech therapy, specifically in the area of emotional understanding for adolescents with weak social communication skills.
