Professor John Lee Chi-kin, who is currently Vice President (Academic), Chair Professor of Curriculum and Instruction, Director of the Centre for Religious and Spirituality Education, and Co-Director of the Centre for Education in Environmental Sustainability at The Education University of Hong Kong, has been appointed UNESCO Chair in Regional Education Development and Lifelong Learning.

At the University’s ceremony in celebration of the third appointment of the UNESCO Chair, held on 2 May 2019, Professor Lee outlined the major focal points over the coming four years of his appointment, including (i) support for UNESCO’s Sustainable Development Goals, (ii) the development of 21st century skills and positive values, (iii) capacity building across education sectors, and (iv) technical and vocational education and training (TVET). Other UNESCO priorities and strategies, including life and values education, environmental education and intercultural education, will be involved as well.

With the aim of expanding the impact on Hong Kong and other regions, the Chair presented his four-year work plan in a meeting held in April 2019 in Beijing with the UNESCO Beijing Cluster Office and the National Commission of the People’s Republic of China for UNESCO. The Chair will also continue to strengthen connections with other UNESCO Chairs, as well as local and international institutions, to facilitate collaboration in research, projects, publications and various activities, such as seminars and student internship schemes.
