EdUHK 2023/24 Annual Report
The Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK) released its 2023/24 Annual Report, themed “Education Heritage Education Futures”. The report captures the University’s major developments and achievements over the past year, and looks to future initiatives. The report includes:
30th Anniversary Celebration: Education Talent Virtue
EdUHK adopted “Education Talent Virtue” as the theme for its 30th Anniversary, emphasising the core mission of nurturing talent and cultivating virtue. Over the year, EdUHK organised a series of events to celebrate the University’s establishment and pay tribute to its century-old educational legacy, thereby laying a solid foundation for future development.
Newly established Academies and Centres
To enhance educational diversity and innovation, EdUHK established two new academies last year: the “Academy for Educational Development and Innovation” and the “Academy for Applied Policy Studies and Education Futures” to better synergise interdisciplinary expertise across centres, and respond to the future needs for economic transformation and to promote high-end innovative development. They covered diverse discipline, include Artificial Intelligence and Digital Competency, National Security and Legal Education, Chinese and Multilingual Education Development, and Finnish Education.
Rise in International Ranking and Outstanding Achievements in Scientific Research and Innovation
EdUHK ranked fifth in Asia and 20th in the world in the field of education, according to the Quacquarelli Symonds World University Rankings by Subject. Also, 49 EdUHK scholars were named in the World’s Top 2% Most-cited Scientists, published by Stanford University. In terms of research funding, the University secured a record-high for 44 research projects under the annual General Research Fund (GRF) and the Early Career Scheme (ECS), with total funding increasing by 11% compared to the previous year. In terms of scientific research and innovation, the University earned 30 prestigious international innovation awards; these achievements received international acclaim.
Deepening Mainland and International Collaboration
EdUHK also achieved significant results in educational technology, innovative teaching, and establishing significant partnerships. The University collaborated closely with numerous higher education institutions and government agencies in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, cities in the mainland, and around the globe, providing broader opportunities for scholars’ and students’ development. In addition, the University expanded its influence in countries along the Belt and Road Initiative, Mainland China, and Southeast Asia to promote regional educational development.
Professor John Lee Chi-Kin, EdUHK President said, “the EdUHK community will work together to promote the all-round growth of students in the five core areas of moral cultivation, intellectual development, physical and mental health, social skills and aesthetic literacy, to ensure they are open-minded, empathetic, positive, and innovative to contribute the local community, the nation, and the world.”
