Grooving and growing through rhythmic movement activities

2020-11-06

Tivoli Kindergarten invited Dr. Alfredo BAUTISTA, Associate Professor and Associate Head (Internationalization) of the Department of Early Childhood Education (ECE), to host a day-long rhythm and movement workshop on 29th October, 2020. The workshop was part of Tivoli’s Continuum Professional Development (CPD) efforts. There were 13 participating teachers, from pre-nursery to kindergarten level.

During the workshop, Dr. BAUTISTA shared novel research on how rhythm and coordinated movement activities help with young children’s self-regulation and cognitive development. Teachers participated in many hands-on exercises, musical games, and got to roleplay and understand how to implement these activities in their classrooms. Real-life examples were also shown to teachers, which gave them a better idea of how to translate newfound research into practice.
