This week, a delegation from the School of Education (SOE) at Shanghai Jiao Tong University (SJTU) visited the Education University of Hong Kong (EdUHK). The delegation included Professor Chiang Feng-Kuang, the Vice Dean of SOE and Director of the Research Center for Future Education, and Dr. Dai Haimin, Associate Professor. The visit focused on advancing our collaborative project titled University Teacher Artificial Intelligence (AI) Competency Model and Professional Learning System for EdUHK and Beyond. This collaboration underscores the two universities’ shared commitment to integrating Generative AI (GenAI) to build up university teachers' GenAl competencies and support quality professional development for adopting GenAI in higher education.
During this visit, Prof. Chiang and Dr. Dai from SJTU participated in the project meeting led by Professor Lim Cher Ping, Chair Professor of Learning Technologies and Innovation, Department of Curriculum and Instruction (C&I), Faculty of Education and Human Development (FEHD); Co-Director, Global Institute for Emerging Technologies (GIET), EdUHK. Along with other core project members including Dr. Sun Daner, Assistant Professor from the Department of Mathematics and Information Technology, and three Assistant Professors Dr. Zhu Jinxin, Dr. Ba Shen, and Dr. Huang Lingyun, from C&I, this project meeting focused on the project’s progress in conceptualizing the university teacher GenAI competency framework and future planning.

One of the highlights of this visit was the first session of the Learning Innovations and Emerging Technologies Masterclass Series entitled “AI + HI: Shaping the Future of Education at Shanghai Jiao Tong University”, co-hosted by SJTU’s School of Education, EdUHK’s C&I and GIET Equity Team. This event brought together around 50 faculty members and students. Chaired by Professor Yan Zi, Head of C&I, Prof. Chiang and Dr. Dai showcased SJTU’s innovative AI & Human Intelligence (HI) Action Plan with AI-enhanced teaching and learning practices across various disciplines. This thought-provoking masterclass sparked significant interest among the attendees, fostering discussions on the challenges and opportunities of integrating GenAI with human expertise and AI capabilities to enhance equity, quality, and efficiency.
