Dr Norman Mendoza was selected as one of 40 participants out of 120 applicants globally—and one of two selected applicants from Hong Kong—to participate in the Emerging Psychologist Programme (EPP) of the 33rd International Congress of Psychology, which convenes every four years. The selection criteria included motivation, research and teaching, publications, scholarships, fellowships, recommendations, and awards. The EPP was a 6-month long programme with its earlier phases conducted online and culminated with in-person research activities in the ICP conference last July 17 to 26.
As part of the EPP, Dr Mendoza was awarded a conference waiver worth $5700 HKD, as well as the opportunity to attend a series of pre-conference research workshops and training sessions hosted by the Faculty of Education of Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic. He was among a group of up-and-coming early career scholars from 20 countries spanning North America, the EU, and Asian and Asia-Pacific countries. He led their working group in crafting potential areas of collaboration.
During the conference, Dr Mendoza was invited to speak about his postdoctoral work on Growth Mindset and Growth Practices with Professor Yan Zi, Head of Department of C&I. He also presented some of his collaborative work in poster format.
In light of his recent achievements, Dr Mendoza was recently interviewed by the UGC, for an advertorial regarding the Hong Kong Postdoctoral Fellowship scheme, which he was also awarded. The interview will be featured in an upcoming local news article next month. Congratulations Dr Mendoza!
