海外幼小中文二语学习者教材设计示范 - 课程纲要先导计划

This proposed project aims to achieve three main objectives:

 

  1. To design and develop a sample unit of textbook for overseas lower primary L2 Chinese beginners, which will subsequently lead to a full-scale curriculum design.
  2. To supplement and reinforce the understanding of the above teaching materials with a multi-media e-learning platform and/or mobile application.
  3. To evaluate, consolidate and disseminate related teaching materials and research outputs via field work, a specialized seminar and a potential overseas conference.

Constructing a CSL Learner Corpus for Character-writing Error

Through collecting handwriting data by students who learn Chinese as a second language (CSL) and developing a tag-set for error-annotation, this project aims to construct a CSL learner corpus for character-writing errors, and made reachable as an online resource for researchers and educators in the field of TCSL.

Improving and Enriching the Practice of Teaching Chinese Characters for CSL Teachers in Vietnam

This project proposes a framework of integrating orthographic knowledge with the culture embodied in the formation of Chinese characters to improve and enrich the practice of teaching Chinese characters for CSL teachers in Vietnam, informing Chinese textbook writers as an aid in the creation of a fuller curriculum.

中文二语教学学校协作计画

For teaching and learning support at local primary and secondary levels, CHL closely cooperates with partner schools to provide comprehensive support and guidance for teachers and students in need.

A multilingual parent-child reading picture book with Chinese herbal medicine as the theme

Non-Chinese speaking students (notably ethnic minority students) in Hong Kong lack teaching materials and reference materials on Chinese language related to Chinese culture, so this project plans to design an experimental teaching material (a parent-child reading picture book) on Chinese culture.

 

There are many aspects of Chinese culture, of which the most precious is traditional Chinese medicine. Since ancient times, people have attached great importance to diet and the traditional Chinese medicine concept of "homology of medicine and food"(药食同源) has not only preserved a large amount of traditional Chinese medicine culture, but also has a profound impact on China's food culture.

 

In 2016, the Chinese government issued important documents of the "the belt and road initiative" Development Plan for Traditional Chinese Medicine ( 2016-2020 )(《中医药“一带一路”发展规划(2016-2020年)》). It shows that the government attaches great importance to the dissemination of Chinese medicine culture. Since ancient times, traditional Chinese medicine has been an important part of exchanges and cooperation among countries along the ancient Silk Road. Acupuncture and moxibustion of traditional Chinese medicine is listed in UNESCO's "Representative List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Human Beings", and Compendium of Materia Medica(本草纲目) and Huangdi Neijing(黄帝内经) are listed in " World Memory List". The International Organization for Standardization (ISO) has established the Technical Committee on Traditional Chinese Medicine (ISO/TC249) and has successively formulated and promulgated more than 10 international standards on traditional Chinese medicine.

 

This project aims that young students from other countries can learn not only Chinese language but also traditional Chinese medicine, the essence of Chinese culture, and spread the concept of healthy life to foreign young people through understanding common Chinese herbal medicines with edible value and basic medicinal properties.

 

This project will select traditional Chinese medicine plants commonly used in daily life, especially those in southern China, as the material for this project. Learning these plants can improve students' plant knowledge and encyclopedic knowledge and help them better experience Chinese culture. We will give priority to 10 to 20 kinds of common herbal plants, such as: Houttuynia cordata(鱼腥草), Microcos paniculata(布渣叶), Mango seed(芒果核), Hedyotis diffusa(白花蛇舌草), Litchi seed(荔枝核), Perilla leaf(紫苏叶), etc. In this way, it is considered that they are representative plants of Chinese herbal medicine in the south of the Five Ridges of China, and that they are common in daily life, so that students can apply what they have learned.

 

There are a lot of Chinese literature works, especially classical poems with Chinese herbal medicine as the theme.Therefore, this project can enable students to recognize common Chinese herbal medicines in daily life, and then learn relevant poems and literary works to enhance their knowledge of Chinese culture and stimulate their interest in learning Chinese.

 

We hope that the main beneficiaries of this project are non-Chinese speaking students from mainstream schools in Hong Kong. At the same time, we also want to promote it to international schools in Hong Kong.

Teaching Chinese as a Second Language in Chinese-Speaking Areas versus Overseas: A Dialogue between Hong Kong and Vietnam

Teaching Chinese as a second language (TCSL) has been prosperous in recent years and is conducted simultaneously both in Chinese-speaking areas (including Mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau) and overseas. Foreign learners may come to Chinese-speaking areas or just stay at their home countries to study Chinese language. The different geographical and language environments of these two types of L2 learners require different pedagogical adaptations, including different learning and teaching strategies. This project aimed to call for a dialogue between these two sides, with Hong Kong as a representative of Chinese-speaking areas and Vietnam as a representative of overseas countries. An online workshop entitled “Chinese characters teaching and learning of CSL workshop 汉语作为第二语言的汉字教学工作坊”was successfully organized in this project.

点画飞扬------汉字书法学习平台

本计划因应香港教师对粉笔(板书)和硬笔(改簿)书写技能的迫切需要,针对书法学习的特点和媒体性能,建立网上汉字书法自学平台。以214个汉字部首为纲,高频例字为目,通过短片动态呈现香港规范繁体字手写体的书写技巧。引领自学者达至「字形规范,笔顺正确,结构端正,连贯流利」的学习目标,促进教师专业发展,优化BLUE和E-Learning成效,全面配应社会、大学、学院和学系发展策略。

An Integrated Identity Project for Preparing Interculturally Competent Foreign Language Teachers

This project is a university-level TDG project that aims at using foreign language teacher education programmes in Teaching Chinese as an International Language (TCIL) and Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) as the vehicles to explore reflective, experiential training methods to enhance the pre-service teachers’ awareness of cultural diversity, reduce ethnocentricity and promote meaningful engagement pre-service foreign language teachers at postgraduate levels.

Enhancing Professional Excellence: Developing Motivational Strategies of Pre-service Teachers in Chinese Language Classrooms

The proposed project aims to: 1) Enhance understanding of language motivational strategies to improve teaching competence of pre-service Chinese language teachers; 2) Develop the skills of pre-service Chinese teachers in implementing motivational strategies in the classrooms so as to enhance professional excellence; 3) Create a motivational strategies handbook to facilitate the teaching and learning of four skills in Chinese language classrooms; 4) Establish a video corpus of motivational strategies in Chinese language classrooms and provide resources for pedagogy related courses.

Roads to Better Cantonese: A Reading Program for Homonyms of Putonghua and Cantonese

This project expects to have synergistic effect of formal and non-formal learning, by developing a set of asynchronous self-paced Blended Learning materials.  Mainland students, through systemic learning in homonyms of Putonghua and Cantonese, can better integrate into local society, nurturing the four core competencies, and will be beneficial to internationalization.

Becoming a Regional Leader: Developing Chinese Language Education (L1 and L2) as an Area of Strength (AoS) through Internationalisation

Based on the CHL’s track records in Chinese language education (L1 and L2) in the Greater China Region, this proposed project aims to develop CHL as a regional leader of Chinese language education through internationalisation in areas of academic development, research and KT.

小学中国语文科电子课堂计画

This initiative will embark on an e-Chinese learning platform for P1 to P6 students, with approximately 24 episodes of interactive teaching videos and games covering key learning areas of Chinese language, ranging from Chinese characters, Chinese poems and classical Chinese texts to part of speech, sentence structure and Rhetoric, among others.

Building an international hub for Chinese language learning: Incorporating IB philosophy and pedagogy into L1 and L2

There are generally two purposes of this project. Internally, CHL aims to enrich and improve the overall research quality in Chinese L1 and L2 learning and develop the department into an international teaching and research hub in Asia. Externally, the department plans to establish collaboration with world well-known researchers and research centers in order to play a role in the global research arena.

A serial of coherent programs, including international conferences and refereed journal publication, will therefore be proposed at different stages within two years.

香港中学文言文课程的设置与教学

本项目尝试通过评估本地中学古代汉语教学的教学成效,总结出本地古代汉语教学的整体情况,并以此为相关的课程设置、教学法以及中学教育中的古代汉语知识能力结构建立提出建议。另外,关于香港中学古代汉语教育与中国内地、台湾、澳门、新加坡古代汉语教育的对比研究也将在本项目中一并展开,以期得到大中华地区古代汉语教学情况的全貌。为了寻求相关学者、前线教师对于新近研究成果的意见与建议,以及借鉴前沿的专家研究成果,本项目也将举办相关的国际学术研讨会及工作坊,供古代汉语教学领域的专家、学者与前线教师就相关议题进行讨论与经验分享。项目亦将邀请一部分专家学者作为顾问,与我们一同探讨、解决古代汉语教学中的问题。最后,我们将建立一个线上平台,收录有关古代汉语的校本课程、教材等参考资料,从而为中学的古代汉语教学提供支援。

从诗词欣赏到品德情意教育

本计划已得到海内外文学界及教育界的专家学者担任顾问,冀望合力从环球视野来全面探讨古典诗词在现代社会的重要意义。由诗词专家学者组成的研究团队将会设计教学大纲,编写实验教材,以呈现诗词的深层内涵和当代意义,并组织学校进行实验。参加实验的学校老师,可以参加专门为培训诗歌与德育教学的教师工作坊,掌握实验教材的编写理念、教学方法和评估方式,并可利用学生生活例子丰富教材,然后指导学生学习,逐步进行阶段性的评估,以求为学校编订校本教材提供示范及参考。

三字经与现代社会

This project, organized by the Department of Chinese Language Studies at EdUHK and co-organized by the International Classics Culture Association, aims to explore the relation between Three Character Classic 《三字经》and its application in modern society. STEAM蒸蒸日上:生活中的数理人文

本计划旨在为小学生创设一个以「生活中的数理人文」为题材的活动,引导学生从生活出发,就自己感兴趣的课题,广泛阅读,认真思考,积极探求事物的原理,并提升中文阅读能力。另外,计划还引导参与学生透过写作实用文类,分享探究成果,从而发展多功能的中文写作能力。同时,学生的学习成果,例如阅读科普人文读物、写作计划书、观察及实验报告,都会透过不同的评估活动,比方汇报分享、互评而深化学生的思考,营造校园阅读及写作氛围。本计划的具体目标包括:1.透过鼓励学生广泛阅读与数理人文题材有关的中文书籍,培养学生通过中文学习的兴趣,并提升阅读能力;2.透过分享探究成果,培养学生乐于与人分享的态度,并提升中文写作能力;3.透过互评、观摩,扩大学生的知识面,并形成以「生活中的数理人文」为主题的语文学习共同体。
