The following is a summary list of ways in which schools are using ICT to communicate (interactively)
across the media‐space. This is a small list and the possibilities are endless, only limited by the
imagination of teachers and the cost of ICT.
Computerised attendance checks and follow ups.
‘Cash‐less’ schools that utilize stored value cards that enable parents to track student
expenditure and activities
Electronic message displays in the school foyer.
Joint teacher/parent/student workshops on computer‐based learning.
Accredited computer courses for all members of the school community.
Presentational software displays by students/parents.
Software programs especially for use by parents of children with special educational needs.
Software — huge, easily obtained choice of educational CD‐ROMs for home use, to reinforce
what has been taught in school.
Independent information, advice and support lines for parents, education centres and shops.
Educational websites specifically for parents and students, many with downloadable worksheets
and activities (see inside back cover).
Involvement in online school events and debates.
